The Lloyd's Register Foundation was established in 2012 to protect life and property at sea, on land, and in the air. A charity that is funded solely by the profits from Lloyd’s Register Group, we create real-world connections between science, safety and society; supporting research into cutting-edge technologies that are applied through the solutions the Group offers and builds for customers.
The Foundation therefore provides everyone who works in the Lloyd’s Register family with a clear purpose – no other engineering or technology company can make such a direct claim to saving lives across the world.
Digitization & archiving
The Heritage & Education Centre (/), part of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, is a library and archive which is open daily to the public and offers an invaluable resource to researchers from a variety of disciplines, including maritime, business, engineering, genealogy and linguistics.
We are currently digitizing our entire ship plan and collection – around 1.25 million fascinating documents including personal stories, linguistics, photographs and drawings, and a history of engineering and maritime industries since the 1830s. The people who flourish here combine a passion for digital transformation with a deep respect and interest in the past, and will most likely have a degree in History.
