OIL & GAS

Designing & permitting a Liquid Natural Gas storage facility.

A project delivered by SGC Engineering, a Lloyd's Register company.

Overview

SGC teamed up with Northstar Industries of Methuen, Massachusetts to design and permit an 814,000-gallon natural gas storage tank on 55 acres in the Colorado wilderness.

How we helped

SGC was responsible for producing the project’s stormwater management plan and certifying the roadway design. Because the project site was located downgradient of the Thompson Gulch Drainage Basin, the new access road required the design of a water-crossing to accommodate a drainage area of approximately 2,150 acres.

The road design incorporated four 36” culverts and a maximum road grade dictated by the safe passage of tank trucks. The plan included beneficial use of stormwater runoff from the site by directing it to a neighboring cattle farm to be used for irrigation and livestock drinking water.
