UNIFE, the owners of the IRIS certification scheme, have now fully combined the new Quality Management System (QMS) Standard designed specifically for the rail industry, ISO 22163:2017, with their own IRIS Certification™ rules: 2017.
The International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) was developed in 2005 as a rail industry specific standard and is now on Revision 03 (rev. 03). It provides organisations with the confidence that they are meeting the robust criteria set out in ISO 9001:2015, the world’s leading QMS standard, while factoring in the rail industry specific elements contained in ISO/TS 22163 and the widely adopted IRIS Certification assessment methodology. Emphasis is placed on areas deemed to have the greatest impact on safety, reliability and regulatory compliance for rail products.
The transition timescale for IRIS certification (as well as ISO/TS 22163:2017) requires all organisations to have completed their transition to rev. 03 by September 14, 2018, as set by UNIFE and is aligned with the ISO 9001:2015 transition deadline.
This means that all new IRIS certificates must be to rev. 03 and all visits for existing IRIS rev. 02 clients must be against the new requirements.
