Kuala Lumpur 20 March 2014

For an industry confronted by ever increasing challenges, complexities and opportunities, it is easy to lose sight of a simple fact: the role that technical innovation plays in supporting a safe and sustainable industry.

The event will showcase Lloyd’s Register Energy’s (LRE) capability in offshore oil and gas, enabling visitors to meet its experts at Booth G701 and find out about LRE’s end-to-end services and portfolio of technical expertise.

LRE panel experts and representatives from the company’s Global Technology Centre in Singapore are also participating in the event’s technical conference programme:

Chairing role:

- Flow assurance, Johan Gullman Strand, 26 March, 16.30-18.30 hrs

- Hydrodynamics, Johan Gullman Strand, 28 March, 10.30-12.00 hrs

Paper presentations:

- An effective constitutive model for unbonded flexible risers, Ben Edmans, 27 March, 08.30-11.00 hrs

Panel discussions:

- Managing ageing infrastructure, Dr. John Fuad Edwards, 28 March, 08.30-10.00 hrs, Plenary Theatre

- Surface blowout preventer technology, Daryl Colacino, 28 March, 10.30-12.00 hrs, Plenary Theatre

“We are illustrating that delivering effective integrity management with the support of independent technical expertise is vital to the oil and gas industry’s continued success and evolution,“ said Johan Gullman-Strand, Manager R&D, Computational Methods and Data Systems at Lloyd's Register Global Technology Centre in Singapore.

“Aside from making our lives easier, safer and more productive, advances in technology are positively influencing the oil and gas economy,” said Strand. “Our work on managing risk through blow-out preventers on oil rigs is a very recent example of how we are applying our technical insight in highly critical operations – and with emerging technologies, the next 50 years will be no exception.”

LRE will be launching their all-new quarterly “Technology Insight” publication – which gives an overview on how key technologies are addressing the industry’s key challenges.

“The first issue available from our Booth G701 details the work LRE are doing from our Singapore Global Technology Centre on marine riser tension systems, next generation risk analysis and how we are using computational fluid dynamics to model wave conditions,” highlighted Strand.

Notes

The Singapore Global Technology Centre, set up in 2012, is focusing initially on solutions for the many technical and systemic challenges that face the energy sectors. It has several research themes: from subsea drilling and well control equipment; risk, including asset performance management and life extension; to deep water and floating offshore installations; enabling and emerging technologies, including renewables. It is established with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to collaborate on R&D projects as a key part of the centre’s activities.
