Building closer links with all stakeholders in the maritime trading environment and boosting collaboration with the chartering community is behind LR’s decision to appoint a dedicated shipping markets lead in Switzerland.
Chris Hughes (pictured right), a naval architect who has worked at LR for 12 years, was previously General Manager, Greater China Marine & Offshore Business Development based in Shanghai. Chris assumed his role in August and is based out of Geneva.
“We feel that LR has a role to play in sharing our knowledge with the wider shipping community – beyond just the traditional ship classification client base. As our industry prepares to be disrupted by decarbonisation and digitalisation, now, more than ever, our deep understanding of technology can add value to a diverse range of stakeholders across the shipping value chain. Creating this new role builds on the work we have been doing across industry collaborations such as the Global Maritime Forum; Getting to Zero Coalition and others.” said Andy McKeran, Commercial Director – Marine & Offshore at Lloyd’s Register.
“We chose Geneva as the base for this global role as we felt that the growing shipping and trading cluster in Switzerland deserved a local, permanent presence. It’s certainly been a change coming from Shanghai; however its great to be able to share the experience, and connections I built in the Far East over the past five years with clients here,” said Chris Hughes, Global Lead, Shipping Markets.
