At Posidonia earlier this year LR launched its 'Big Question' competition, using a digital survey to look for insight into the challenges facing the marine industry. We received hundreds of 'Big Questions' and have chosen three worthy winners of Garmin Vivoactive smart watches.
Following the announcements of the first and second winners, LR recently welcomed the third winner to their Piraeus office – Dimitrios Paliktoglou of Equinox Maritime. He was presented his prize by Theodosis Stamatellos, LR's South Europe Area Marine & Offshore Manage. The 'Big Question' Dimitrios asked was: "What do you think will be the future renewable energy solution for marine shipping?"
(L-R) Theodosis Stamatellos, Dimitrios Paliktoglou and Ioannis Roustanis, Client Relationship Manager, LR
Joseph Morelos, LR's Technology and Innovation Strategic Marketing Manager, provided a brief answer to Dimitrios' question:
"At Lloyd's Register we are currently researching all areas of future renewable energy solutions. Alongside the work we are doing on wind-assisted power, nuclear and hybrid technology, we are driving the industry forward with innovation in alternative fuels such as Gas (LPG/LNG), Methanol and Biofuels. All of these innovations are transition pathways to decarbonise – we don't believe there will be one solution for the whole shipping sector and all will have their place according to the markets they serve"
There were further chances to win at SMM and the Monaco Yacht Show and these winners will be announced shortly.
