'The Best PSA Tool in the World Got Even Better!'

The RiskSpectrum PSA 1.5.0 release had set from the very beginning really ambitious goals. The implementation of long record IDs and conditional quantification being two of them.

"It was not only the development that was challenging. 40% of the total man-hours invested in the project was spent on testing. The testing team has been very patient and has done a great job", says Luo Yang, Software Technical Lead and manager of the RiskSpectrum PSA project.

Interface and Functionality Updates

We have seen a trend towards the need to use longer IDs in the application. This is driven by the expectation to have a strong coupling between the plant ID and basic event ID. The existing ID length 20 characters has caused challenges for primarily basic events and CCF events. The new implementation allows for maximum 50 characters in the record ID field.

The brand-new conditional quantification capability enables generic modelling of dependencies between events. This functionality will save many man-hours of work and improve the quality of analyses including dependent events.

Dr. Pavel Krcal, head of R&D and responsible for the development of quantification methods explains. “The new conditional quantification feature makes it possible to model dependencies between events automatically and without approximations. Historically, events with conditional probabilities have been performed using post processing of e.g. HRA dependent events. This has several drawbacks. The conditional quantification implementation is now an integral part of the model and the conditional quantification is performed in line with the other calculations, properly considering cut-offs. It also offers the possibility to improve importance calculations compared to the post processing approach.”

All new functionality, changes and bugfixes are listed in the Release History section in the Help file. Here are the highlights:

  • Long ID support
  • Conditional Quantification
  • MCS BDD Settings per analysis case
  • Calculate without regeneration of MCS
  • Using MCS analysis case results as input to initiating events
  • Support CCF events in MCS Post Processing Action rules

All licensees with a valid Maintenance & Support agreement will receive the upgrade to RiskSpectrum PSA 1.5.0 at no cost.
