Safetytech Accelerator launches new £1m Safetytech PoC Fund.

The award-winning Safetytech Accelerator is continuing in its mission to make the world a safer place by launching an initial £1m PoC (proof of concept) fund.

With this new Safetytech PoC Fund, the Safetytech Accelerator will facilitate the trials of digital products and services that can significantly enhance safety and reduce risk in safety-critical industries and infrastructure.

The Safetytech Accelerator is a not-for-profit initiative launched by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and Lloyd’s Register Foundation in 2018. “We are delighted that the Safetytech Accelerator is launching this new Safetytech PoC Fund.  For our clients, working with the Accelerator provides a unique opportunity to engage with innovative early-stage tech companies to solve important safety and risk challenges that could not only benefit them, but entire industries”, said Nial McCollam, CTO at Lloyd’s Register.

In just two years, the Safetytech Accelerator - the world’s first and only accelerator focussed on safety and risk in industrial environments - has tackled 16 global pilot projects with leading companies, or ‘Challenge Partners’, including Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Scorpio, P66, Pepsi Cola, Seaspan, Shell, GB’s Health and Safety Executive, KOTUG, PIL and many more.

“The Accelerator has done great work in the past two years with companies who have trialled innovative solutions from early-stage digital companies at their sites, ranging from sensor technology, machine leaning, AI and computer vision systems and data analytics. With the launch of the Safetytech PoC Fund, we are now ready to embark on new collaborations with corporates and startups”, added Dr Maurizio Pilu, Managing Director of the Safetytech Accelerator.

“As our recently published Safetytech Report states, the Safetytech market has the potential to make the world we work in hundreds of billions of dollars safer,  the opportunity is certainly there, now’s the time to come together and help to inject technology into safety,” concludes Richard Clegg, Chief Executive of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

About the Safetytech Accelerator

The Safetytech Accelerator is a dedicated open, not-for-profit initiative created by Lloyd’s Register Group and Lloyd’s Register Foundation, bringing together corporates, startups and the wider technology community to collaborate and accelerate the adoption of safetytech, in safety-critical industries.

In early 2020, the Accelerator was awarded the Global Lloyd's List Award for Excellence in Data and Technology Innovation, in recognition of its excellence and impact in innovation, setting it apart from the competition worldwide. The industry-leading panel felt that the programme, the first of its kind globally, embodied everything that the Lloyd’s List Awards were established to champion, displaying important and impressive global impact for safety and risk in critical industries, including the maritime sector.
