Overview

The aim of this one day course is to introduce delegates to proactive ship energy efficiency and asset management best practices which go beyond fuel consumption reduction and are linked to cost savings.

Who will benefit

The course will benefit fleet management personnel and senior ship technical staff who are looking to expand their awareness of ship energy management best practice. It builds on the “Principles of Ship Energy Management” training course to provide attendees with additional tools that not only focus on fuel reduction but on proactive management of fuel and machinery which can lead to cost savings.

Through highly participative use of group and individual exercises based on Lloyd’s Registers’ experience within shipping, the course covers the following technical areas:

Ship operational monitoring and management principles

  • Measured parameters

  • Engine, hull and propeller efficiency and associated KPIs

  • Manual vs. automated performance monitoring systems

  • Interpretation and analysis of performance results

Complete fuel management, from bunker manifold to exhaust

  • Fuel grade selection, requisition and loading

  • Fuel storage and handling

  • Fuel treatment, preparation and delivery to consumer

  • Fuel combustion and exhaust emissions

Maintenance management

  • Reactive vs. proactive maintenance

  • Life cycle considerations

  • M3 Benchmarking

  • Condition-based maintenance

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • understand the importance of a structured approach to ship energy management in delivering real value (cost-savings and efficiencies)
  • appreciate the simplicity and economics of applying 'best practice' in this area
  • see how this approach can support you achieving other goals such as SEEMP and ISO 50001.

Delegates will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
