Who should attend?

This training course is of value to everyone whose duties involve matters of safety, maintenance and quality aspects and for the operations of ships, as well as other marine industry stakeholders. Attendees should be ship managers, personnel/crew managers, technical superintendents, designated persons, masters and ships officers.

Key content

Through a highly participative combination of presentations, group discussions, case studies plus individual and syndicate exercises, the course covers the following topics:

  • discussion on the content of the convention and its implementation onboard

  • how to conduct a review of the DMLC (Part I and Part II) in relation to the MLC, 2006 and relevant national requirements

  • standard of ship board working and living conditions described in the MLC, 2006 and national legislation

  • flag and port state guidelines addressing the implementation, inspection, certification and enforcement of the MLC, 2006

  • introduction to dealing with seafarers complaints

  • practical guidance on how to undertake an inspection relating to maritime labour issues

  • preparing for an MLC, 2006 inspection

What will you learn?

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • discuss the technical and operational aspects of the MLC and how it relates to marine working and living conditions

  • demonstrate the procedures for onboard verification in accordance with the MLC, 2006 and national requirements 

  • summarize and interpret the requirements contained with the convention 

  • summarize the national legislation, international guidelines and standards relevant to MLC, 2006 requirements

  • demonstrate the procedure for dealing with crew complaints in accordance with the MLC, 2006.
