About the Role:

Support the research, development and assessment of technologies that improve vessel energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions onboard seagoing vessels.

The Role 

  • Execute projects that evaluate maritime energy efficiency and decarbonisation technologies, and assess technical and economic feasibility relevant to MERC’s objectives.
  • Analyse operational experience and ship-generated data to derive insights on energy efficiency and maritime decarbonisation technologies.
  • Support pilots and technology validation activities.
  • Contribute to the development of new methods and tools for the assessment of technologies relevant to MERC’s interests.
  • Prepare reports, presentations and technical documents summarising the developed insights and outcomes.
  • Present project results at external meetings and conferences, where applicable.
  • Remain current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to shipping decarbonisation and energy efficiency. 

 

What you bring

  • Have a Naval Architecture / Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree from a recognised University. Postgraduate education from a recognised university will be a plus.
  • Have relevant experience working in the marine industry including more than 2 years’ experience in energy efficiency technologies for existing seagoing vessels.
  • Have a good understanding of ship systems, propulsion and vessel operations.
  • Have competence in using of ship performance software platforms and data visualisation tools. Competent use of Python will be a plus.
  • Have highly effective technical writing and communication skills in the English language, and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Be adaptable and well organised with a practical minded approach and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have good collaboration skills to work with teams across the collaborating organisations.
