Lloyd's Register Marine and Offshore provide a wide range of services to industry world-wide involving design verification/certification, independent analysis and consultancy activities in various disciplines, including those of offshore wind, fixed structures, pipelines, geotechnics, naval architecture, safety and mechanical engineering.
We are looking to recruit a Senior Load Specialist Engineer to join our UK Fixed Structures Team based in Aberdeen or Southampton. This team has substantial expertise in providing independent assurance for design and operational aspects of offshore and onshore structures for a range of industries including the renewable and oil and gas sectors.

The role
Reporting to the Fixed Structures Team Leader, the key responsibilities are as follows:
- Undertake design appraisal/certification activities with respect to offshore wind turbine structures for compliance with specified rules, codes, Regulations, standards and specifications within agreed parameters including budget and contractual requirements.
- Ability to perform complex load assessments for on and offshore wind turbines using software such as Bladed or OpenFAST.
- To develop technically other employees, as appropriate and share information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
- Ability to provide specialist advice/solution and training to internal/external clients, research or development work.
- To support internal and external audits for accredited scheme for wind farm project certification, wind turbine type certification.
- To represent Lloyds Register on technical committees for certification bodies and contribute to research project with universities or joint industry projects;
- Assist in development of technical guidance notes, technical work for papers to be presented at seminars and conferences, co-ordinate technology development projects within LR.
What you bring
- Master’s degree in engineering, Maths or Physics. Preferably a qualified member of a recognised professional body e.g. www.nspe.org, www.cae.cn, ww.engc.org.uk, www.ecindia.org, preferably a Chartered/Professional Engineer.
- 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in using industry software for load analysis of wind turbines (Bladed preferred, HAWC2, Flex5, OpenFAST or major OEM proprietary software also acceptable) preferable wind turbine on floating platforms.
- Experience of running offshore wind calculations according to IEC 61400-1, 61400-3-1 or DNV-ST-0437 standards or similar.
- Knowledge of metocean and wind conditions, data collection, data processing, hind casts for fixed and floating structures.
- Demonstrates a high level of competence with written communication and presentation to internal and external audiences.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of IEC 61400-22 and/or IECRE OD 502 and OD 501 certification scheme.
- Preferably a Chartered Engineer and a member of a recognised professional body for example ICE, IStructE or IMAREST. (or working towards);
- Experience of certification preferred (either through working for a certification body or having had direct contact to have calculations approved).
- Experience of checking colleague's calculations and reporting.
- Knowledge of wind turbine control and safety systems.
- Experience of participation in standards committees preferred (i.e. IEC, IECRE, BSI etc.).
- Prior experience of working with reputed engineering contractor or engineering consultant is desirable.
