What we’re looking for

 

We are looking for a candidate who will be working as an Advanced Analysis Specialist in Merchant Ship Group. The successful candidate will be working based in Busan, Republic of Korea.

As a member of a highly dedicated team, your primary focus will be service delivery to the internal/external clients based on LR ship Rules and regulations, ship structural analysis procedures, and research topics pertaining to the strength and fatigue of ship structures. You will provide technical support to our local and global clients and surveyors regarding ship structure analysis, addressing a wide range of complex technical inquiries within targeted timely and budget-compliant delivery.

The role demands the following core skills and experience:

  • Application of classification Rules, international standards, and the industry’s common practices to design assessment of ship structures;
  • Hands-on experience in sea-keeping analysis (Boundary Method), and Stochastic process, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics);
  • Good understanding of the principles of naval architecture and processes in ship design and construction;
  • Experience in static and dynamic finite element analysis, including pre and post-processing;
  • Ability to carry out research proactively and develop fit-for-purpose solutions to challenging technical issues within given time scale;
  • Ability to automate a direct calculation work-flow with one of the known scripting languages such as Python;
  • Experience in writing up complicated technical reports and documents in English;
  • Client facing, especially customers from ship designers and shipyards

The role

 

  • To perform complex assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed broad parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • To produce the deliverable within the agreed broad parameters in an appropriate format and take responsibility to review other employee’s work as requested.
  • To discuss / present the deliverable with the internal / external client and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • To assess / recommend the time / value of the work to be undertaken for an internal / external client within an agreed fee / cost structure and within the commercial aspects of the contract.
  • To make recommendations based on internal / external client feedback to assist in service delivery improvement and to help build the business.
  • To contribute to internal / external client management as appropriate.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • To mentor / coach other technical employees to achieve effective technical knowledge transfer and application.
  • To undertake project management where applicable including monitoring project progress and spend against budget and contract requirements.

 

What you bring

 

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Archietecture or a related field, along with a Chartered/Professional qualification and active membership in a relevant professional institution.
  • Broad knowledge of loads and a profound understanding of structural analysis methods, encompassing hand calculations based on theory and Finite Element analysis, and their application to marine and offshore structures.
  • Essential experience and knowledge in naval architecture engineering, with a particular emphasis on hull structure design or appraisal from various roles such as shipyards, classification societies, ship owners, designers, and manufacturers
  • Availity at coding with Python (or equivalent others) is advantageous
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, adept at prioritizing tasks, meeting both Lloyd's Register and client deadlines, and performing effectively under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage in technical discussions with clients and maintain positive client relationships, with a client-focused mindset.
  • Proficiency in the English language at a level suitable for the responsibilities of the role, along with relevant IT skills.
  • Local term and condition, Korean for first language, Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the requirements of the work, along with effective interpersonal skills.
