Francesco Ruisi

Global Passenger Ship Segment Director

I was keen to join LR as they are a reputable, respected company. Over the past 18 years here, I’ve learned a lot, travelled the world and built a network around the globe.

Part of the role I most enjoy is managing people, developing their careers and creating a ‘teamwork atmosphere’. Not only have I had the chance to manage around 60 people and lead the sales team, my understanding of different cultures, behaviours and perspectives, built through my travel opportunities with LR, has really shaped my management skills.

From a personal perspective, LR has enabled my children to grow up within an international environment, with many different cultures and experiences.

This is a dynamic organisation that recognises its people, their knowledge, and their skills. Everyone is always willing to help and support you. It’s a culture of mutual respect.

Customer Experience Lead - UK

LR’s mission of a safer, sustainable world really resonates with me. Being in client services, I’m interested in how humans can live better lives.

My role at LR enables me to identify what client and employee pain points need to be addressed to improve experiences within the business and for clients.

LR recognises potential and pushes you to be the best you can be. It’s here that I first became a manager, and when I spotted a need to improve the feedback ending system, I was given the opportunity to lead that project – which has had a positive impact on internal and external trust.

It may be a global company, but you’re still able to build great connections across teams and countries to learn and progress your career. LR is extremely inclusive, supportive, and constantly welcomes fresh ideas and different perspectives.

LR is the perfect place for those who don’t want a generic 9-5 office job – it’s a different way of life here. I joined as part of the graduate training scheme and have been here ever since.

I didn’t want to be sat behind a desk all day, and I’ve been able to be out on ships and operating in a field environment. I’m a ‘big picture’ thinker and the strategic approach here means I can view projects end-to-end.

The international opportunities are great. I’ve lived all over the world, there is lots of diversity and I love that I can speak to colleagues in Japan in the morning, and then the United States in the afternoon.

At LR, if you want to seek out an opportunity, it’s there for the taking. You can grow and progress, and as the industry continues to go through a period of change, you have a unique set of opportunities to drive the organisation’s trajectory.

Graduate Surveyor - India

Working at LR means learning from experienced people with great knowledge. It’s a company that really helps you develop both personally and professionally, and you get to explore a wide variety of new and exciting projects.

I‘m the first female surveyor from LR India, and everyone has always been supportive throughout. I joined as a graduate surveyor, as part of the four-year graduate program. Most companies look at your previous roles, but with LR you gain more hands-on experience to learn. I’ve gained lots of training in different survey types, like new construction, existing ships, and across different locations in India and Singapore.

As a surveyor, I'm able to travel a lot, meet new people, engage in new projects and each daily challenge is different, which enables me to learn and grow. The role is challenging and it pushes me outside of my comfort zone which is great

LR creates a supportive environment to learn and grow within. It may be a 260+ year old organisation but the transformation journey keeps it exciting, like a start-up.

I started at LR in February 2013 and have gained experience in six roles during that time. I’ve also been able to volunteer as a career coach, so not only have LR invested in me, I get to pass on my knowledge and experience back into others within the organisation.

The top priorities in my role include being a champion of our people, strategy, culture vision and values and promoting leader-led activities. I consider myself a problem-solver and like to communicate and influence, so it’s the ideal role. Particularly at LR, as shipping really does drive the world’s economy. It’s rewarding to play a part in that.

As a wife, mother and professional, I’ve never been expected to prioritise one over the other. The work / life balance is real here.

Senior Surveyor - UAE

LR is one of the most respected companies in the maritime industry. I started my career as a marine engineer at a shipyard, and was excited to join LR when the opportunity arose.

I’m responsible for managing a team of surveyors and delivering client-facing, onsite services, as well as surveying vessels and products. As part of my role, I get to apply my expertise and knowledge, communicating directly with clients and colleagues. My job is constantly evolving and no two days look the same. It can be very challenging and we are constantly learning, which keeps things exciting.

I’ve been here for 15 years now and have worked across different continents – China, North America and now in the Middle East. Wherever I move, I am confident and comfortable as you have support whenever you are
