Whitepaper: Zero Ready Framework

Ensuring shipping can deliver our zero-emissions future

Published by LR’s Maritime Decarbonisation Hub, the ‘Zero Ready Framework’ whitepaper is a five-level framework for assessing the actual readiness of a vessel for the transition to zero carbon fuels.

The whitepaper was developed based on observations that the term ‘readiness’ is being used in multiple ways across the shipping industry, leading to a lack of clarity on the extent and type of vessel conversions that have and will be implemented by shipowners, and how ready they are in meeting net zero targets.

In consideration of the significant economic and technical complexities involved in vessel construction and retrofit, the ‘Zero Ready Framework’ whitepaper provides a common reference for investors, charterers, insurers and prospective shipowners making decisions around the risks and opportunities for both converting existing fleets and building new vessels.
