Sumitomo Heavy Industries Marine & Engineering Co., Ltd. was awarded basic design approval (Approval in Principal) from LR for an Aframax tanker equipped with ‘high pressure type’ LNG dual-fuel systems.
The tanker is equipped with an LNG dual-fuel system and two IMO Type-C large-capacity LNG tank together with Fuel Gas Supply Systems (FGSS) and can substantially reduce the amount of sulphur oxide (SOx), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2) contained in the engine exhaust gas by using LNG as a primary fuel.
As the global efforts are made to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emission in the international shipping, demand for environmental-friendly ships will continue to grow.
According to the Japanese company, Sumitomo is committed to doing its part in realising a sustainable shipping industry and will continue meeting social demands by fully utilising its technical and developed capabilities, supplying its customers with environment-friendly ships.
