Client challenge
Our client wanted to operate Malaysia's first deepwater, semi-submersible production system. The complex, six-year project involved joint owners and numerous vendors and contractors, managed from three key locations: Houston, USA; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and St John’s, Canada. MISC Berhad asked us to provide classification and certification services, including design appraisal and field surveys, to ensure the ambitious project ran smoothly.
How we helped
We worked closely with all the relevant parties to provide the right resources at the right time.
Our support was broken into three main areas, as follows.
-
Regulatory evaluation of the concept.
-
Classification of the hull and moorings to our Rules.
-
Review of the statutory aspects of the platform, and certification of the topsides’ process and structural systems to industry and client specifications.
Our scope of work included design appraisal (carried out in Aberdeen, Halifax, Houston, Kuala Lumpur, London and St. John's) and field survey services at fabrication sites across Malaysia.
Business benefits
To support the project’s continuing success, we ensured that the various suppliers met statutory regulations and standards, as set by the industry, our client and its partners.
