09/2017 - Statutory alert: Product recall of Hwayan Emergency Escape Breathing Devices (EEBDs) TH15B

Applicability: All SOLAS-certified vessels

Subsequent to a recent investigation by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency resulting in the publication of their Safety Bulletin No. 09, the Jiangsu Hwayan Marine Equipment Co., Ltd. has instigated a recall procedure for its Hwayan EEBDs TH15B.

The recall is due to a blockage in the pressure reducer connector, which means that the required rate of delivery of breathing air is not obtained.

The affected EEBDs were produced in July 2013 with lot numbers B132361–B133060 (inclusive). The lot number of the EEBD can be found on the side of its orange cover, which houses the air bottle.
