Safety Alert: GME-brand EPIRBs

Applicability: All owners and operators of vessels fitted with GME-brand EPIRBS


Standard Communications Pty Ltd. has issued a Safety Alert relating to its ‘GME’-brand emergency position indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs).

The following GME EPIRB models, manufactured between 2005 and 2010, have been identified as being at risk of failure: GME MT400; GME MT401; GME MT406G; GME MT401FF; GME MT403/G; and GMEMT403FF/FG.

What should owners and operators do now?

Owners and operators of vessels which are fitted with any GME-brand EPIRB should test the beacon immediately as detailed in the Safety Alert.
