Applicability: All shipowners and ship managers

Brazil has announced a new inspection campaign for ageing bulk carriers, following the recent casualties and structural issues experienced by these ships.

Ships aged 18 years or more that are intending to load high-density cargoes equal to or greater than 1.78t/m³, such as iron ore, bauxite, manganese and phosphate, will be subject to a port state control inspection upon arrival and prior to the commencement of loading.

This inspection is in addition to the annual mandatory condition surveys conducted on bulk carriers, Oil/Ore carriers (OOs) and Oil/Bulk/Ore carriers (OBOs) of 18 years or more, as required by NORMAM-04/DPC.
