Guidance Notes for Class Approval of EPL and SHaPoLi Equipment.

Need marine and offshore technical help?

To achieve compliance with EEXI requirements, many ships will need to make changes to their systems to improve their energy efficiency. Engine Power Limitation (EPL) and Shaft Power Limitation (SHaPoLi) are the two possible overridable power limitation solutions that shipowners and operators might consider.

This Guidance Note is focused on Lloyd’s Register’s Classification requirements for the approval of EPL and SHaPoLi equipment. Survey requirements are not included in this document and will need to be discussed and agreed with our Survey Team.

This Guidance is intended for:

  • Shipowners and ship operators seeking approval for the installation of EPL/SHaPoLi equipment on board specific ships, for diesel engine
  • Steam turbine Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) seeking approval for EPL/SHaPoLi (as applicable) equipment as part of their OEM product offering
  • Third party equipment suppliers seeking approval of their EPL/SHaPoLi product
