Applicability: Owners and operators of vessels operating in Australian waters

The Australian Navigation Act 2012 enters into force on July 1, 2013.

One important change to the current arrangements is that all foreign flag vessels operating in Australian waters will become subject to the Navigation Act. This means that they will also be subject to port state control which is not currently the case for those vessels under state or territory jurisdiction.

Owners and operators are advised of this important change in order to prepare themselves for the revised legislative structure.
