A number of colleagues from across LR met with clients, celebrated collaborations and continued to raise our profile as a trusted adviser. In this article, we take a look at some of the highlights from one of the industry's most prestigous events.
OTG acquisition
LR’s acquisition of OTG led many conversations at SMM 2024. Nick Brown’s interviews with Greg Trauthwain of The Maritime Executive, and Martin Penney’s interview with The Naval Architect were just a few examples of media activity that showcased how our organisation continues to grow in line with industry requirements.
LR and KRISO join forces on verification and validation in marine autonomy
LR and Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) entered into a joint development project to verify and validate marine autonomous functions, systems, and operations to support the wider uptake of autonomous systems within the maritime industry. The collaboration marks a groundbreaking effort to develop a comprehensive testing environment, which will bring together multiple verification technologies for the hardware, software, and AI components of maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS) systems.
LR partners on fuel cell and CCS study to support emissions reduction
Our business advisory team is partnering with energy companies ROTOBOOST and Amogy on a fuel cell and pre-combustion Carbon Capture Storage System (CCS) study to assess opportunities for emissions reduction. The joint development project (JDP) will evaluate the use of hydrogen fuel cells, ammonia and methane cracking technology and CCS from a technical readiness, financial and regulatory perspective.
Celebrating client successes
Andy McKeran also welcomed Zelim’s Engineering Operations Manager, Laura Tognarelli, to present a certificate for approval in principle of Zelim’s man overboard system, which automatically detects and tracks incidents.
JOME Engineering LLC received a LR module B certification for their pilot ladder, whilst Sealution’s CEO Sebastian Hamers visited the LR stand to recognise the recent type approval of its below-deck ship connectivity solution.
LR OneOcean launches Risk Manager
Barry Hooper and Mathew Kearns launched Risk Manager, our new self-service platform for helping ship owners, operators and charterers manage their commercial exposure against the EU emissions trading system (EU ETS).
Residing on LR OneOcean’s new platform, Risk Manager leverages our extensive global experience in vessel routing backed by the industry’s finest vessel models, weather forecasts, and route optimisation engine to help users accurately manage their EUA exposure.
Prior to a voyage, Risk Manager helps users manage their EU ETS risk by simulating future exposure and providing the insights to build an EUA strategy.
During a voyage, it helps users monitor fuel consumption data against EU ETS voyages to get an accurate picture of their realised exposure. After a voyage, it helps users balance their risk by tracking EUA transactions against the voyage.
Risk Manager is designed to adapt to the ever-evolving regulatory landscape. With FuelEU management capabilities coming in December 2024, it’s ready to support future emissions regimes as they are implemented in other regions around the world.
