Relationships and expertise drove the deal to support Ultranav in its ambitions.
Building upon an already existing strong relationship, Lloyd’s Register (LR) and the Ultranav Group have agreed that 61 managed ships, and ships under construction, will join the 67 ships already classified with LR.
Representing various vessel owning and operating entities in the Ultranav Group, the agreement has been negotiated and signed by UltraShip, the technical arm of Ultragas APS of Copenhagen, on behalf of all the vessel management companies within the Ultranav Group. The agreement covers a wide range of specialised gas carriers, tankers, dry cargo ships, and tugs.
UltraShip Chief Technical Officer Kaj Pilemand said: "We are very pleased with the agreement with Lloyd’s Register. The Ultranav board gave us and our colleagues in the other ship management companies the task to enhance cooperation and to explore the possibilities for synergies within the classification area. Together with our colleagues in Humboldt, Chile, Nav. Antares of Argentina and Navitranso of Peru, we established key performance elements such as performance, professionalism, alertness, ability to understand our business and requirements, cost, and not least: a strong presence in South America. LR scored high in all."
LR’s Copenhagen based Marine Client Manager, Flemming Kjeldsen commented: "We are looking forward to building on the well-established relationship to support not only UltraShip but the whole Ultranav Group in their vision to grow and expand their business. LR is well placed to provide the technical support for Ultranav’s portfolio of different ships. Our experience within gas technology and strong presence in South America were of significance in winning this deal. We are looking forward to further sharing our expertise with the Ultranav Group."
Ultranav is the shipowning/operating unit of the family owned Ultramar Group of Santiago, Chile, which has a number of operating subsidiaries in South America.
