Panel discussion Technology in oil and gas
Following the publication of the latest Lloyd's Register Energy Oil & Gas Technology Radar, we asked industry leaders for their views on some of the issues examined by the research. Claus Nehmzow of BP's Digital Innovation Organisation, Nial McCollom, Chief Technology Officer and Chris Chung, Head of Strategic Research at Lloyd's Register Energy considered some of the most exciting technologies in the pipeline - and their likely impact on the sector.
Describing the innovation environment, Nial McCollom explained how the pace of innovation throughout industry is creating a menu of options that haven’t been available until recently. Chris Chung agreed, observing that organisations can now collaborate in a number of different ways but the challenge remains harnessing ideals based on business issues. Claus Nehmzow highlighted the technologies that he anticipates will have the most significant impacts, including robotics, tools for processing unstructured data and track and trace technologies. He is encouraged to see new technologies becoming economical - which is likely to drive deployment as well as new combinations.
