The IMO Hong Kong Convention (HKC), the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR), and the UK Ship Recycling Regulation require ships to undergo a Final Survey before being sent to a recycling facility.

From 26 June 2025, ships destined for recycling must carry a valid International Ready for Recycling Certificate (IRfRC), issued under the HKC. This certificate is valid for three months and must be obtained prior to recycling.
