Overview

Lloyd’s Register EMEA is a Partner of SAFE (Realtime Damage Manager And Decision Support), a Research and Development project in the field of maritime technologies. The project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and in the framework of Regional Operational Program (2014-2020) of the Italian Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, Objective “Investments to support Growth and Employment Objective 2014-2020”, Axis 1 – “Strengthening research, technological development and innovation”, Action 1.3 – “Support of collaborative R&D activities for the development of new sustainable technologies, products and services”.

SAFE started on the 1st July 2019. The project focuses on the design and the realization tools and methodologies for dynamic quantification of a damage occurred on a ship. A prototype will be designed to provide interactive decisional support and will include tailored on board devices. Those will support the personnel on board to optimize and improve ship operational competences connected to the loss of control and operability of a portion or a specific facility / device of the latter.

Objective

The project objective is to develop new software and hardware tools to be applied in the Safe Return to Port field, with reference to requirements set by the international IMO – SOLAS regulation. The final goal is to increase safety and security of the ship.
