The IMO Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping Sub Committee (HTW 10) is where the human aspects of shipping are discussed. HTW reports to the Maritime Safety Committee.
HTW 10 met in London from 5 - 9 February 2024.
The following are key outcomes from HTW 10:
Comprehensive review of the 1978 STCW Convention and Code
A road map for the comprehensive review of the STCW Convention and Code and a list of subjects for review were developed to be agreed by MSC. In addition a non-exhaustive list of other topics and proposed amendments to the Convention and Code has been compiled.
Development of interim guidance on training for seafarers on ships using alternative fuels
Agreement that the development of training provisions for seafarers on ships using alternative fuels would be added to the HTW 11 agenda.
Development of the STCW GISIS module
A new GISIS module on the STCW convention will be trialled.
