TRAINING

Human Element and Human Factors training.

Addressing the human element is widely accepted as the greatest challenge for modern shipping.

Overview

Our bespoke training courses will show regulators, shipyards, ship designers, equipment manufacturers, ship owners and operators how to make a safer working environment by better managing the human element to increase productivity, safety, welfare and help with issues relating to recruitment and retention.

Early consideration of the human element in the design of ships equipment and procedures is the best way of ensuring safe and productive operation. A range of training on human centred design and ergonomics for the working environment, user interfaces, signage, information, checklists and operating procedures is available.

Modern marine operations mean that staff need to develop skills quickly and to stay on top of rapidly changing technical and operational demands. Our coordinated approach to competence management supports crew and shore staff in ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operations. We also provide technical training on human factors in accident investigation.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of this customised training to your organisation are:

  • better working environment

  • more usable equipment

  • reduced operating and maintenance costs

  • improved competency of staff members (shore and ship)

  • minimised risk of incidents from human error

  • ownership of safety responsibilities through the workforce

Additional support and reference material

The Nautical Institute publication Alert!, sponsored by the Lloyd's Register Foundation has a collection of short high-quality videos for a unique insight into the importance of the human element in shipping and its impact on maritime safety. Each video is 3-4 minutes long and corresponds to one of the award winning Alert! bulletins.
