LR's Zonal Charging approach helps make survey travel-related costs clearer, more consistent and more predictable. Instead of travel charges varying from survey to survey, ports are grouped into defined zones with standard charging principles based on where the survey takes place.
Whether you are planning a survey, budgeting for vessel operations, or reviewing contract coverage, the Port Finder helps you quickly identify your port zone and understand how survey travel charges may apply.
How port zones work
There are six geographic zones (A–F) and a Remote-Only zone. Each port is assigned to a zone based on factors such as distance, accessibility and local surveyor availability. Survey travel charges are applied according to the port’s assigned zone, as outlined below:
- Zone A ports: No survey travel charges
- Zone B-E ports: Fixed travel charges apply
- Zone F: Variable charges apply
Use the interactive map or port list below to search for a port and view its assigned zone.

How much will you pay for your survey travel related costs?
Survey travel charges are based on:
- Your contract travel time entitlement, which covers surveyor round-trip travel time within the zones included in your contract.
- The service delivery port zone, determined by the location where the survey is carried out.
If the service delivery port zone is covered by your contract travel entitlement, no additional survey travel charge applies. If the survey takes place in a zone beyond the travel entitlement included in your contract, the applicable travel charge will apply, as shown in the table below.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is the LR’s approach for survey travel-related costs. Ports are grouped into predefined zones and standard charges apply according to the zone where the service is delivered.
There are six geographic zones (A-F) plus a Remote-Only zone. Zone A includes 330+ ports. Ports are grouped based on factors such as distance, accessibility, local surveyor availability.
The Remote-Only zone attracts no travel charge, as the surveyor connects remotely through LR Remote.
For Zones A-E, the fixed fee includes travel time costs and associated travel expenses such as airfares, accommodation and launch fees. In case of multiple visits, or more than one surveyor required, there is no additional charge.
Block Fee contracts include travel entitlement up to specified zone levels. If a survey takes place within the zones covered by your contract, no additional travel charge applies. If the survey takes place in a higher zone, you only pay the difference for zones higher up to E, plus associated travel expenses for Zone F.
