LR provides independent technical assurance throughout the complex newbuild programme, supporting navies, shipyards and prime contractors from design to delivery. Early involvement helps define the verification approach from the outset, creating a clear basis for consistent oversight.

This demonstrates that requirements have been applied consistently throughout the programme, supported by objective evidence of compliance against the agreed specification. For shipbuilders, it can support contractual acceptance. For navies, it provides confidence that the vessel has been delivered as intended.

Applying Naval Ship Rules

LR's Naval Ship Rules were the first dedicated naval classification rules published by a classification society. Applicable to all surface ship types, they incorporate military operational requirements and military engineering systems, providing a recognised framework for design appraisal, construction oversight and verification.

Approval in Principle

Where new technology or a design concept requires early review, we can provide Approval in Principle (AiP) before detailed work begins. This enables novel concepts to be assessed against defined requirements at an early stage, helping organisations identify potential issues before they become embedded within the programme.
