LR becomes signatory to Polish Government initiative which aims to generate 5.9 GW of electricity by 2030 and 11 GW by 2040.
Lloyd’s Register (LR) has signed the Polish Offshore Wind Sector Deal, joining key members of the industry in support of the Polish energy market on its journey into offshore wind energy.
The initiative, established by the Polish Government, is supported by developers, investors and suppliers including Shell, TotalEnergies and Ørsted, with the aim to implement the tight targets of offshore wind development, whilst strengthening the local economy with the creation of sustainable jobs in the offshore wind sector.
Poland currently gets 70% of its electricity from coal power plants but it plans to phaseout coal by 2040 and intends to install 11 GW (gigawatts) worth of wind power by the same year.
Wojciech Zwierzynski, Managing Director of Lloyd’s Register Polska Marine said:
“Lloyd’s Register has a proud history in Poland dating back to the opening of our office in Gdansk in 1956. We are proud to support the Polish Government’s Offshore Wind Sector Deal as the country continues on its journey toward sustainable sources of energy and we look forward to supporting our clients in the region as trusted advisers in the offshore wind sector.”
LR was accepted to serve as a Renewable Energy Certification Body (RECB) for marine energy by The International Electrotechnical Commission’s Renewable Energy System (IECRE) back in 2021. Recent projects in the sector include the awarding of the design contract for the Equinor’s Hywind Tampen and LR certification for one of Europe’s biggest windfarms at Borssele III & IV.
