Lloyd’s Register (LR) and Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions, have signed a joint development project (JDP) to provide the shipyard with remote survey capability.
As part of the project, LR will invest in providing continuous process improvement, assisting Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions in reducing operational down time and providing effective and efficient technology solutions as part of survey schedules.
LR’s expansion into its remote capabilities has led to the establishment of its Global Digital Survey Centre (GDSC), which manages remote surveys across Americas, South Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and Singapore.
Where used appropriately, remote surveys can be as effective as in-person surveys, reducing travel and operational disruptions will offering greater agility and flexibility for vessels in remote or difficult to access locations.
Andy McKeran, CCO, Lloyd’s Register, said: “This joint venture between LR and QSTS represents an important step in the expansion of LR’s remote survey capabilities. LR's remote surveys bring a tangible reduction in cost for travel and logistics with far fewer operational disruptions, which makes the process highly cost effective for shipyards. LR is pioneering improvements in remote survey processes as part of this JDP and providing support to Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions using the latest technology and inspection techniques.”
Mr. Damir Glavan (CEO), Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions said: "This Joint Venture with LR, offering remote surveys for the vessels, we are targeting for more faster and safer drydockings and aligns perfectly with our mission to provide innovative and sustainable, effective solutions to our customers," said Damir Glavan, Chief Executive Officer at Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions.
