LR has become the first class society to be awarded RO (Recognised Organisation) status by the Mexican Flag and is now approved to carry out statutory certifications for Mexican Flag vessels.

The LR team in Veracruz have been working hard over the last 18 months to build a strong relationship with the Mexican Navy after they assumed responsibility for the Maritime Authority of Mexico last year.

LR Client Manager Victor Diaz said: “Our focus will be making our existing clients aware that we can now carry out work on Mexican Flag ships. We have a number of clients, such as Pemex, TMM, Group R, Svitzer, Naviera Naranja, and Pacc Offshore to name just a few, where we already have a strong relationship and provide a quality service that we will now be able to extend to other ships in their fleet.”

Victor continued: “In September 2017, we were invited by the Mexican Navy to join them at an IMO meeting in London. This was an ideal opportunity to have a deeper discussion about LR’s capabilities at an international level and all that LR provides to the commercial maritime and Naval communities on a global scale.”

The first vessel to be certified by LR will be the Mexican chemical carrier BURGOS.
