Introduction
For low-safety criticality components that are agreed upon by Recognised Organisations (RO), Lloyd’s Register can type approve them under the Mutual Recognition scheme. This LR certification is:
- Recognised by all other classification societies working under EU Regulation 391/2009
- Applicable to ships flying the flag of Member States
- Accepted at the discretion of non-EU Flag States
What is EU RO Mutual Recognition Approval Scheme?
This voluntary Type Approval certification for marine equipment is based on Technical Requirements developed as a consolidation of all of the classification societies’ rules for a defined product.
It is applicable on ships flying the EU flag. The acceptance on non-EU flag ships remains at the discretion of relevant non-EU flag States in the exercise of their exclusive jurisdiction.
The certificates obtained under this scheme eliminate the need for multiple certifications as it is recognized by all the other EU RO. Only those companies that held ISO 9001 whose components are included in the EU RO Mutual Recognition Scheme can apply for this.
