ISPS Company Security Officer, MCA approved

This four-day training course will provide company security officers with the training necessary to meet their obligations under the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code. Adopting practical approaches to interpreting and implementing measures will help ensure compliance with maritime security requirements. The course is compliant with current IMO requirements.  

This four-day course provides a practical approach to interpreting and implementing the maritime security requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code.  

The course is based on the IMO Model course 3.20, it is compliant with current IMO standards and has Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK flag) approval. The course gives you the skills and knowledge you need to fulfil your statutory role as a Company Security Officer (CSO).  

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for CSOs responsible for overseeing fleet security and safety. For shipowners, it provides a rapid, effective, and comprehensive route to compliance with the ISPS Code’s requirements for security onboard their ships.

Key content

This comprehensive programme will train CSOs in the specific responsibilities they have under the ISPS Code. Training begins with three days of comprehensive ISPS Code knowledge, fully immersing candidates in all elements of the Code. This forms the foundation for an expert company security officer.

This is followed by a day of training that provides expertise in the specific requirements and duties to be carried out by company security officers.

To successfully obtain an approved MCA certificate, it is required to satisfactorily complete a writing assessment that takes place at the conclusion of the course and has a duration of two hours and thirty minutes. 

What will you learn?

By the end of this course you will be able to:

• organise and ensure that ship security assessments are carried out and the findings used in the ship security plan development

• ensure the development, submission for approval and, thereafter, the implementation and maintenance of the ship security plan

• enhance security awareness and vigilance while ensuring security communication and co-operation between the ship's crew, company personnel and contracting governments

• undertake internal audits and review security activities.
