Naval platforms rarely remain unchanged after they enter service. Planned maintenance, repairs, equipment replacement and obsolescence management and upgrades all play a vital role in maintaining operational capability, but they also have the potential to affect the technical baseline against which a vessel was designed, built and certified.
LR works alongside navies, shipyards, prime contractors and equipment suppliers throughout a platform’s operational life. We bring two complementary strengths: advisory services that help you shape, plan and de-risk before it happens, and independent assurance that demonstrates compliance has been maintained once the work is done. Together, we give programme teams the confidence to modify, upgrade and sustain their fleets without eroding safety, capability or certification
Advisory
In-service change is rarely a straightforward engineering problem: options have to be weighed against cost, schedule and availability, supportability and the expectation of the naval authority. Our advisory work brings clarity to these vital decisions at the outset influencing key outcomes early. Drawing on our experience of naval and commercial fleets worldwide, we help customers understand what a proposed change really involves, which standards apply, what evidence will be needed, where the technical risks sit, and which option is most likely to deliver the capability required within the constraints of the platform. Advisory is delivered under managed arrangements that protect the independence of our certification and verification activities , so customers benefit from our technical insight during planning while the assurance provided on completion remains impartial and defensible.
Assurance
LR provides independent technical assurance throughout a platform's operational life, helping navies, shipyards and prime contractors manage change while maintaining confidence that vessels continue to meet the standards against which they were originally designed, built and certified. We assess proposed repairs, modifications and upgrades against the applicable naval standards before work is carried out. On completion, we verify
