Applicability: shipowners, ship operators, designers, ship builders and steel manufacturers.
In June 2024, Lloyd's Register released updated Guidance Notes for Additive Manufacturing.
The Guidance Notes update focuses more on the applicability of Additive Manufacturing to marine and offshore rather than the more generic approach of the previous version.
These revised Additive Manufacturing Guidance Notes complement LR's existing suite of Guidance Notes for Additive Manufacturing, these being:
- Guidance Notes for Polymer Additive Manufacturing Certification
- Guidance Notes for the Certification of Consumables for Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing
- Guidance Notes for Certification of Metallic Powders for Additive Manufacturing
As a member of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies), we continually develop and enhance our Rules and Regulations to adopt new technology and industry practice.
Updating these Additive Manufacturing Guidance Notes provides you with the framework to produce Additive Manufactured parts that can be certified for use on classed ships and within the marine and offshore industry. They enhance the quality of Additive Manufactured parts through LR's assurance which includes: facility approval, material inspection, test and qualification.
Our global network of independent surveyors, materials and design specialists, provides Additive Manufactured part production assurance, ensuring they fulfil application requirements.
