The notice relates to a letter published by Nishi-F Co., Ltd. regarding their freefall lifeboat (FFLB) model FF-65 with a capacity of 25 persons and manufactured from October 2010 onwards.

The letter outlines that the passage width inside the lifeboat does not meet the required clear width of at least 480mm, as per section 4.7.2.1 of the IMO’s Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code. The notice includes instructions for identification and rectification of the issue.

What should owners and operators do now?

Owners and operators of vessels fitted with any Nishi-F Co., Ltd. freefall lifeboats should check the model number and production date. If one of the affected units listed above is identified, the passage clear width should be checked for compliance.

If a compliance issue is found, you should contact the manufacturer at nfas@nishi-f.com or your local distributor to arrange rectification measures. You should also contact the vessel’s flag Administration (which may not be Liberia), and/or Lloyd’s Register, so that the deficiency can be controlled until such time as it can be rectified.
