China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard Co., Ltd. was established in 1951 and covers 1,400,000 square meters on land and 1,650,000 square meters on sea with a wharf shoreline 1,850 meters long, with more than 4,500 staff, including more than 500 technicians.
The yard primarily focuses on newbuild production, with a smaller portion dedicated to ship repair and refitting. Newbuilding activities have included a variety of ship types, including Panamax-sized bulk carriers, small multipurpose product tankers, general cargo ships, ro-ro and RoPax ships, feeder container ships and small specialised ship types such as MPVs.
The core new construction business is focusing on RoPax (Dual Fuel) and PCTC (Dual Fuel) ships. Production facilities include two dry docks and a 50,000 DWT slipway. Dry Dock No. 1 has a capacity of 180,000 DWT, while Dry Dock No. 2 has a capacity of 150,000 DWT. These facilities allow the yard to construct a wide range of vessels up to 180,000 DWT. Formerly AVIC Weihai Shipyard Co., Ltd., merged into China Merchant Group. Ex. Shandong New Building Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., Shandong Province, Weihai Shipyard.
