Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.
Dalian City China • CSSC Group
Under Group of:
Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC), a key member of CSSC Group, has more than 120 years of history. The company operates five shipbuilding yards in
Dalian, along with three subsidiary shipyards in Huludao, Shanhaiguan, and Tianjin. It also includes the Dalian Ship Research and Design Institute and around 20 subsidiary marine outfitting companies.
DSIC designs and constructs a wide range of vessel types. These include MR tankers and crude oil tankers up to 308,000 DWT, as well as ultra large crude carriers (ULCCs).
The yard also builds container vessels ranging from 1,100 TEU to 20,000 TEU. Its bulk carrier portfolio includes 36,000 DWT and 37,000 DWT lakers, as well as 82,000 DWT, 120,000 DWT, and 180,000 DWT vessels, and very large ore carriers (VLOCs) of up to 400,000 DWT. Additional vessel types include pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) of 7,000 CEU, hospital ships, and LNG carriers (MARK III type) of up to 175,000 cubic metres. The company also undertakes offshore projects such as floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs), semi-submersible drilling units, and jack-up rigs.
Since 2009, DSIC has developed a range of LNG and LPG vessel designs, including capabilities for very large LNG carriers.
DSIC was formed in 2005 through the merger of two major Dalian shipyards: Dalian Shipyard Co., Ltd. and Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. The company operates under CSSC Group, which now serves as the combined entity following the integration of CSSC and CSIC.
In 2017, DSIC integrated Shanhaiguan Shipyard as a subsidiary, focusing on mid-sized vessels such as 82,000-85,000 DWT bulk carriers, MR tankers, mini Capesize vessels, 7,000 TEU container vessels, and lakers.
In 2019, DSIC incorporated Bohai Shipyard as a subsidiary, strengthening its commercial shipbuilding operations. In 2021, DSIC established DSIC Tianjin Xingang Shipyard, operating under the trade name “CSSC Tianjin Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.” This subsidiary focuses on large newbuild vessels, including ultra-large container ships (ULCSs), Aframax tankers, VLCCs, VLOCs, and large bulk carriers.
Independent shipyard insight, future-ready newbuild guidance and expert advisory support to help you make confident new construction decisions from planning to delivery.
New construction decisions shape the performance, compliance and commercial value of a vessel for decades. Lloyd’s Register helps owners, operators, charterers and project teams make those decisions with greater clarity, combining trusted classification expertise with practical newbuild advisory support.
Through LR’s New Construction Guide, clients can access independent shipyard intelligence across North Asia, including China, Korea and Japan. The guide helps compare shipyard capabilities, facilities, track record, vessel specialisms and future-fuel readiness, supporting smarter shipyard selection and earlier project planning.
Beyond the guide, LR provides advisory support across the full newbuild lifecycle. From technical specification development and design review to regulatory impact assessments, alternative fuel studies, energy efficiency, carbon capture readiness, site support and operational preparation, LR helps clients reduce uncertainty before it becomes a cost, a delay, or a risk.
With global technical authority, local shipyard knowledge and deep maritime expertise, Lloyd’s Register supports future-ready vessels from the earliest concept through to construction and delivery, helping clients build with confidence in an increasingly complex market.
