Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) was established in December 1995 as a joint venture company between China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO), and Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd (KHI). Ownership of the company is equally split between the joint venture parties with a total registered capital of 1.46 billion RMB.
The facility includes two VLCC capacity dry docks and outfitting berths. Research and development and design are supported by Kawasaki Heavy Industry. Training and
development of technical staff is actively monitored. The production process includes ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001 and ISO 27001 accreditation.
In 2009, together with KHI, they developed production designs for a 155,000m³ Moss-type LNG carrier.
Shareholders include China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company and Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporate.
