Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Limited is a leading shipbuilding company with three major subsidiary shipyards –Jiangsu Newyangzi and Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu both located in Jingjiang, and Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui (YAMIC) located in Taicang, about 170 km from Shanghai. The group also owns three design companies based in Shanghai: CS Marine, Econovo and Shanghai Henggao.
The company was established in 1956, with newbuilding, retrofitting, repair services for vessels up to 400,000 DWT, and steel structures. The group operates three large dry docks and five slipways, with an annual shipbuilding capacity of over 7 million DWT.
Main products include container vessels, bulk carriers, MPVs, lakers, tankers and gas carriers. In addition to ships, the group produces fleet containers, and hatch covers, among other steel structures.
In 2024, the group had orders for 117 ships, highlighting its strong position in the global market. Founded in 2005, Jiangsu Newyangzi is located in the Jingjiang Park
of Jiangyin Development Zone, on the north bank of the Yangtze River. It covers 1.8 million square meters and has a 3,000-meter deep-water shoreline, suitable for vessels up to 210,000 DWT.
Facilities include one 200,000 DWT dry dock, one 300,000 DWT dry dock, one outfitting berth, and four 1,000-ton gantry cranes.
Its annual shipbuilding capacity is about 3 million DWT, building mainly container ships under 24,000 TEU and bulk carriers under 200,000 DWT. It also has experience with LNG and chemical tankers.
The yard uses a digital shipbuilding system, supporting efficient design, construction, and management and aims to become a first-class shipbuilding company by adopting advanced production methods and building a high-quality workforce.
Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. began operations in 2013 and spans 1.46 million square meters, with 1,300 meters of shoreline. It includes one dry dock (545m × 147m × 12.7m), two 1,000-ton gantry cranes.
Xinfu focuses on large vessels such as 24,000 TEU container ships, 208,000 DWT bulk carriers and 400,000 DWT very large ore carriers (VLOCs). It was the first non-state-owned shipyard that builds both 174,000 CMB LNGC and 100,000 CMB VLEC.
Jiangsu Yangzi Mitsui Co., Ltd., a JV with Japanese Partners set up in May 2019, specialises in vessels under 80,000 DWT and targets the gas vessel market. It is supported by a strong, long-standing management team.
On 15 July 2024, YZJ signed agreement on opening a new shipyard in Jingjiang with local government. The construction of new yard Yangzi Hongyuan started on 19 Febuary 2025. The new shipyard is located adjacent to Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu, will be focusing on green technology and high value shiptypes. It is expected to deliver its first ship from early 2028.
