We can help you accurately understand and report your greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting commitments for indexes and instruments such as EEXI, CII, ETS, FuelEU, RightShip and SEA Index.

Global legislation to limit GHG emissions evolves, with potential penalties for those who fail to meet tightening regulations like those issued by the IMO and European Union. Understanding an asset’s GHG emissions performance is the first step to accurately report on emissions performance, and to help you develop credible plans to reduce emissions, critical to achieving overall targets.

LR is uniquely placed to help with all your GHG Indexes and Instruments because of a combination of deep knowledge of ship design and technologies, and LR’s key role in supporting IMO and the European Commission in developing GHG instruments through IACS.

LR offers a full range of services to help you understand GHG legislation and regulation, and independently calculate and report on all statutory and commercial (GHG) indexes and instruments for any asset, including those regulated by the IMO and EU:

  • Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI)
  • Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI)
  • Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII)
  • EU ETS & Fuel EU Voyage Emissions Reporting
  • RightShip EVDI and GHG rating for cargo carriers
  • SEA Index certification for Super Yachts
  • Environmental Ship Index (ESI) for ports

Measuring GHG performance through indexes and instruments is only the start of the decarbonisation journey. LR Advisory supports you in developing your decarbonisation strategy through trusted technical advice and support in implementing specific solutions that are proven to reduce GHG emissions.

LR is committed to making the world a safer and more sustainable place, supporting you in making the best decisions for your business. LR’s accurate GHG evaluations inform advice on all corrections, derogations or alternative solutions available to you.

Sectors such as Defence, Super Yachts, Dredgers, offshore supply vessels and fishing vessels have been excluded from many indexes due to either their specialist nature, the complexity of technical variation or the relative size of the sector.

Despite this exclusion, there is still a need for all these sectors to play their part in global GHG reductions, and measurement through indexes is critical way to achieve this.

If an index does not exist for your sector, or if you want a GHG index specifically tailored to your stakeholders needs, LR Advisory will work with you to design the index and set meaningful targets to drive change.

LR has a proud track record of designing GHG indexes for navies, dredgers, heavy lift vessels and super yachts.

SEA Index for Super Yachts

LR worked with the Superyacht Eco Association to develop the industry leading GHG design index for Superyachts, the SEA Index. The index gives yacht owners proactive, proactive tools to make informed decisions when buying, selling or chartering a vessel.

LR continues to work with Superyacht Eco Association to extend the index to accommodate vessels that use fuel cells, batteries and alternative fuels engines.

The Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) is a performance rating system for ships that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) developed to measure ship’s operational carbon efficiency. This is a mandatory measure under MARPOL Annex VI, which came into force on the 1st January 2023.

The measure impacts all cargo ships, RoPax and cruise vessels above 5,000 gross tonnage (GT) and trading internationally.

Within three months after the end of each calendar year, ships are required to report to its flag Administration, or any RO duly authorized by it, the attained annual operational CII and operational carbon intensity rating via electronic communication using a Standardised Data reporting format as per Appendix 4 of MEPC.395(82).
